Requirements
- MSc degree in IT or equivalent technical qualification with at least 3 years of relevant senior experience
- At least 5 years of proven interface development in structured environments
- Advanced knowledge of healthcare IT communication standards including HL7 v2
- Experienced in using an Integration Engine to design, build, and test interfaces
- Strong skills with relational databases and SQL
- Demonstrated team leadership and mentoring ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to draft test plans and design specifications
- Desirable: ITIL Foundation level, XML and JSON message handling, HL7 FHIR knowledge, and experience with Lyniate Rhapsody
Salary Details
This Band 8a post offers between £47,810 and £54,710 per year depending on experience.
About the Role
As a Senior Interface Analyst Developer, you’ll be the technical lead shaping how Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust manages digital connections across their hospital systems. You’ll design and maintain HL7 interfaces that keep patient information moving safely and reliably.
Your expertise will ensure clinicians always have access to accurate data at the right time. You’ll also guide and mentor less experienced colleagues, helping them build confidence and skill while you set standards for the future. From leading on interface development to evaluating new technologies, your work will directly support patient care and staff efficiency.
It’s not just about technical know how. It’s about knowing that when a system runs smoothly, a patient gets timely treatment, a nurse makes a safer decision, or a doctor has the right information in an emergency. That’s the real impact of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis, design, and development of interfaces to improve data flow across hospital systems
- Maintain and enhance HL7 interfaces ensuring accuracy and reliability for patient care
- Mentor and support colleagues so the whole team grows stronger
- Write high quality design specifications and test plans that underpin safe digital practice
- Contribute to standards, procedures, and best practice guidance that set the tone for digital excellence
- Explore and support adoption of new technologies that bring better outcomes for patients and staff
