Requirements
- Recognised Social Work qualification – Plus current RMN or HCP registration
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent – Literacy and numeracy standards required
- Experience with adult mental health – Especially within home treatment or crisis support
- Knowledge of MHA 1983 – Including codes of practice and guidance
- Teaching qualification – ENB 998, TICS, MELPS or equivalent desirable
- Supervisory experience – Able to guide both qualified and non-professionally aligned staff
Salary Details
This role offers a competitive NHS banded salary from £37,338 to £44,962, based on experience and aligned to national pay structures.
About the Role
This Social Worker post sits within the Barking and Dagenham Adults Home Treatment Team. They’re a specialist crisis intervention service offering care at home instead of hospital. You’ll assess, plan, and implement care strategies that de-escalate mental health crises in the least restrictive way. You’ll be visiting service users across boroughs, using your expertise to avoid unnecessary admissions and create space for recovery right where people live.
They need someone who thrives on working in a supportive work environment, contributing their unique perspective to a multi-disciplinary team. You’ll have a big say in treatment plans and become a valued part of a unit that works across weekends, holidays, and emergencies to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist mental health assessments in service users’ homes
- Coordinate with nurses, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals for holistic care
- Monitor and evaluate treatment plans to reduce hospital admissions
- Provide expert input around social care legislation and safeguarding
- Support carers and families as part of community-based interventions
- Contribute to weekend and bank holiday rota coverage to ensure 7-day access
- Offer supervision to junior staff and students where needed
