Job Summary

Under the management of the EPR Test & Release Manager, the Software Testing Engineer will coordinate and manage testing across the Digital & Informatics (D&I) department. The role ensures the quality and safety of clinical systems within the Trust’s digital environment, developing a strong understanding of system intricacies to create robust test artifacts.

Collaboration across departments and organizational stakeholders is essential, involving the creation, maintenance, and implementation of manual and automation test suites, test plans, and cases. The role champions quality and patient safety by offering specialist advice to internal staff, stakeholders, and external suppliers. Additionally, the Software Testing Engineer will contribute to future testing strategies, follow industry standards, and stay up to date with emerging technologies to enhance software quality.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and implement manual and automation test suites, test plans, and test cases.
  • Coordinate testing across departmental and organizational stakeholders.
  • Advocate for quality and patient safety by advising staff, stakeholders, and external suppliers.
  • Drive adoption of best practices and policies to improve software development methodologies.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders, and technical leads to ensure test scripts accurately reflect user needs.
  • Develop automated testing suites using Selenium or similar technologies.
  • Adhere to standards and policies related to the software development and testing lifecycle.
  • Support change control mechanisms and audit requirements.
  • Work with sensitive, sometimes patient-identifiable, data while developing and supporting information systems.
  • Work outside normal hours when required for system upgrades and maintenance.
  • Provide product support, applying strong analytical skills to investigate, identify, and resolve software defects and queries.
  • Address technical issues across various domains, including end-user devices, networks, databases, and servers.
  • Independently resolve time-critical issues as necessary.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level in Computer Science, Software Development, Software Testing, or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Evidence of ongoing personal development and interest in software testing and/or development.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in Manual/Automation testing and test management.
  • Experience working within Agile Scrum teams and backlog management.
  • Experience analyzing requirements and designing applications to meet business needs.
  • Proactive approach to self-learning and continuous professional development.

Desirable:

  • Experience in testing large-scale enterprise products.
  • Proficiency with test automation frameworks and software.
  • Experience using backlog management tools.
