About the Role

As a Specialist Craftsperson (Mechanical), you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the hospital’s complex systems running smoothly. You’ll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of engineering equipment, including heating and ventilation systems, theatre ventilation, and other critical hospital infrastructure.

Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the hospital can provide top-notch care to patients around the clock. You’ll work on challenging projects, diagnose and fix complex issues, and collaborate with a skilled team of professionals dedicated to maintaining a world-class healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex maintenance and repair work on mechanical systems
  • Conduct calibration, fault-finding, and repairs on a variety of engineering plant and equipment
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests
  • Provide technical advice to other staff and contractors
  • Undertake condition surveys and evaluate inspection reports
  • Plan and organize complex activities such as shutdowns and service interruptions
  • Handle heavy equipment and carry out physically demanding repairs when needed

What You’ll Bring

  • BTEC HNC/HND, City & Guilds, or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant mechanical engineering field
  • Significant post-apprenticeship experience in industrial or hospital maintenance
  • Expert knowledge of mechanical services and electrical control systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clinical staff and management
  • A positive, can-do attitude and commitment to delivering high-quality work
