Requirements

  • Good literacy skills, such as GCSE grade C or above in English or equivalent.
  • Relevant qualification at NVQ Level 3 or similar.
  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities or mental health needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team under supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for developing adapted communication resources and learning new approaches.

Desirable:

Salary Details

This role offers a Band 4 salary of £27,485 to £30,162 per year, aligned with the NHS Agenda for Change pay scheme.

About the Role

As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you’ll play a key role in helping patients reach their communication goals. Working within the high-secure environment at Rampton, you’ll support Speech and Language Therapists in delivering structured programmes that make a measurable difference.

Your day will include one-on-one sessions with patients, developing tailored communication aids, and modelling effective interaction strategies across wards. You’ll bring empathy, adaptability, and initiative to an environment that values both independence and teamwork. Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients’ communication goals under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist.

  • Contribute to ward meetings and patient reviews to share insights and progress.
  • Assist in staff training and awareness sessions to enhance communication inclusivity.
