Full Job Description

The Choate Rosemary Hall Student Life Internship Program presents a rewarding opportunity for 7-8 college students to immerse themselves in an intellectually stimulating and supportive academic community. Interns actively engage with the faculty and staff overseeing Choate Summer Programs, gaining hands-on experience within either the Summer Programs Office or the Student Activities Center (SAC). Their roles extend to being advisers, coaches, and chaperones.

Student Life Interns participate in weekly professional development sessions. The program is particularly beneficial for those interested in understanding the dynamics of living and working in a residential college-preparatory or middle school institution. Reporting to the Summer Programs Office Coordinator and the Director of Student Activities, the Student Life Internship encompasses a stipend, room & board and runs from Tuesday, June 18 to Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Before Students Arrive

  • Assist the Summer Programs Office and Student Activities Center (SAC) with projects related to student and faculty arrival
  • Participate in Orientation Meetings for Interns and New Faculty
  • Ensure dormitories are prepared for students and faculty
  • Assist with Arrival Day Check-In and Orientation for students
  • Aid SAC with airport transportation details and chaperone student pick-up

During Summer Programs

  • Reside in a student dormitory, sharing advising and supervisory responsibilities with other interns and a veteran house adviser
  • Serve as the adviser for 8 -10 students
  • Write adviser reports and proofread Teacher Reports for advisees
  • Monitor Study Halls during the class day
  • Coach/facilitate afternoon athletics and activities for students
  • Collaborate with deans and the Summer Programs Office on student life programming
  • Chaperone SAC trips and on-campus activities; work on developing and executing activities for students
  • Oversee Reach sign-out permission system if in the Summer Programs Office, assist with projects and support the deans team during office hours
  • If working in the SAC, assist with SAC trip sign-up and participate in activities during the week from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and as needed on weekends
  • Attend weekly professional development workshops
  • Meet regularly with a Summer Programs mentor

As Summer Programs Concludes

  • Assist deans/heads of house/SAC in completing room inventory sheets, recording any damage, and room cleanup
  • Assist SAC staff with the departure of all residential students, including chaperoning airport shuttles
  • Assist Summer Programs staff in routine duties at the end of the program

In addition to completing the application and providing a resume, candidates are required to upload two letters of recommendation from current professors or employers and an unofficial transcript. Job offers are made on a rolling basis, starting in February 2024, as completed applications are received and candidates interviewed.
