Job Summary

An exciting opportunity is available to join a newly commissioned Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Service. This service provides an OPD outreach program at HMP High Down and a specialist residential Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) unit for men with learning disabilities. These services are part of the national Men’s OPD pathway and represent a groundbreaking initiative.

The team includes Psychologists, a Neurodiversity Practitioner, Occupational Therapists, a Speech & Language Therapist, Prison Officers, and an Advanced Lived Experience Practitioner. We seek a compassionate and enthusiastic Support Time Recovery Worker to assist service users in developing the skills necessary for independent living.

The service is part of the London Pathways Partnership (LPP), a consortium of five NHS Trusts providing specialist OPD services across London and the Southeast. LPP integrates prison and community services to ensure a seamless transition for service users. Staff development opportunities, including specialist therapy training and accredited supervision, are available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily operations of the Progression PIPE and Outreach service
  • Facilitate group skills sessions and social-creative activities
  • Support the psychological well-being of residents as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Aid occupational and psychological therapists in their work
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and contribute to case formulations
  • Conduct assessment interviews for potential residents
  • Contribute to report writing and outcome evaluations
  • Maintain accurate records and case notes
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures, including de-escalation and PMVA techniques

  • Maintain professionalism in dress and conduct
  • Function effectively as a team member within a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Liaise across agencies to ensure coordinated care
  • Participate in annual appraisals and personal development planning
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to OPD information-sharing guidelines

  • Engage in Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance initiatives
  • Follow security procedures and prison-specific guidelines

Training and Supervision

  • Complete relevant training and professional development as required
  • Attend HMP High Down’s induction program and mandatory CNWL training
  • Receive and apply clinical supervision for safe practice
  • Assist in staff awareness training within the PIPE team

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) in Health or Social Care

Knowledge & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in mental health services (as a worker, service user, or carer)

Other Skills & Attributes

Essential:

  • Commitment to supporting individuals with personality disorders
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies and respond professionally to challenging behavior

Desirable:

  • Awareness of forensic mental health
  • Understanding of the mental health system
  • Knowledge of safeguarding adults and children

Additional Information

This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
