Job Summary

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a highly motivated and organised Neurodevelopmental Support Worker to assist in coordinating and supporting group interventions for children, young people, and parents/carers. The role involves providing information and advice to families with neurodiverse needs, working under the supervision of experienced clinicians.

Additionally, the Support Worker will handle administrative responsibilities, including screening referrals, gathering diagnostic information, and supporting the team in decision-making. The role requires excellent communication skills, empathy, and the ability to balance clinical and administrative tasks effectively.

This is a fixed-term position for 24 months to support the needs of the service.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work within the Early Help Neurodiversity Hub, supervised by a qualified clinician.
  • Organise, coordinate, and lead group interventions for parents/carers and children/young people.
  • Support families with neurodiverse needs by providing appropriate information and advice.
  • Assist in the assessment process by collecting relevant home and school-based information for diagnostic clinicians.
  • Screen referral documentation and support the team in decision-making.
  • Perform administrative tasks, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with families, professionals, and team members.
  • Maintain a flexible and adaptable approach to work.

Note: The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; both Welsh and English speakers are welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience working with young people with Neurodevelopmental Disorders and/or Mental Health Needs in a community setting.
  • Experience supporting parents and families.

Desirable:

  • Experience in multi-professional collaboration.
  • Experience in leading group work.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Experience working in a Health or Social Care setting.
  • Relevant training, degree, or equivalent experience in Neurodevelopmental Conditions.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with children and families affected by neurodiverse conditions.

Skills & Attributes

Essential:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues in neurodevelopmental care.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Welsh language skills (Levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing).

Other Requirements

Essential:

  • Satisfactory Standard/Enhanced DBS clearance, including Adults and Children’s Barred List check.
  • Ability to travel independently within Gwent and other locations.
  • Commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice.

Desirable:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of children and their families.

This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
