About the Role

You’ll join a tight-knit research team in the Aquatic Research Facility, where the focus is on real change for marine ecosystems. This isn’t just tank work. It’s a chance to dive into active research, contribute to international projects like their Indonesian coral programme, and support the next generation of marine scientists.

You’ll work closely with academic and technical teams to care for aquatic animals, support breeding and welfare tasks, and maintain high-tech equipment. Your work will directly influence projects that tackle disease, behaviour, and environmental sustainability.

It’s also a teaching and mentoring role. You’ll guide students and support their projects, making sure they’ve got the tools, space, and knowledge to thrive in marine biology. Every task you do keeps this research running smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and care for aquatic animals in a controlled research setting
  • Assist with seagrass and coral maintenance across tropical and temperate systems
  • Maintain research equipment and ensure the facility meets all safety standards
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate students during practicals and projects
  • Manage supplies and track research stock across multiple projects
  • Train volunteers and student employees to ensure high-quality lab practices
  • Lead risk assessments and help ensure all health and safety standards are met
