Job Summary

An exciting opportunity is available for a Band 4 Therapy Support Worker to join the Medical and Health Services for Elderly People (HSEP) Team at Barnet Hospital. The role involves working within inpatient wards, supporting Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists in patient rehabilitation and discharge planning.

We are looking for individuals with enthusiasm, flexibility, and healthcare experience who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. The role requires strong organizational skills, decision-making abilities, and excellent communication in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide therapy support in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Work autonomously and with therapists to assess patients, assist rehabilitation, and facilitate safe discharges.
  • Conduct therapy interventions, including mobility and functional assessments.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Document patient progress clearly and accurately.
  • Assist in planning and implementing discharge processes.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care in line with hospital policies.

Work Schedule

  • 37.5 hours per week within a 7-day service.
  • Flexible working arrangements may be discussed at the interview.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).

Desirable Qualifications

  • City and Guilds/NVQ in a relevant field.
  • Certification in Exercise Instruction for Older People.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in a therapy setting within a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supervising or teaching staff.
  • Knowledge of aids and adaptations used in rehabilitation.

Essential Skills

  • Strong observational and practical skills.
  • Ability to teach patients practical skills for rehabilitation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, and data entry).
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisions independently.
  • Understanding of disability and promoting independence.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant health conditions and their impact on daily functioning.

Personal Qualities

  • Awareness of diversity, equality, and confidentiality in healthcare.
  • Understanding of health and safety policies.
  • Physically fit and able to comply with manual handling guidelines.

Additional Information

This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
