Requirements
- Strong grasp of AWS cloud platforms and related services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and VPC
- Proven experience in developing and managing detection rules for cloud environments
- Familiarity with GitOps and CI/CD workflows to streamline security operations
- Skilled in PowerShell, Python, or Go, especially for security automation
- Hands-on cybersecurity experience within AWS, including CloudTrail log analysis and GuardDuty triage
- Degree in computer science, IT, or related field (preferred but not essential)
- AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect Associate or Security Specialty are a plus

About the Role
As a Threat Detection Engineer, you’ll sit at the frontline of Centrica’s digital defence. Your mission is to build, automate, and refine detection systems that protect their AWS environments. Every alert you tune and every workflow you automate makes their operations stronger and smarter.
You’ll design new detection use cases, build on past incident insights, and transform threat intelligence into real-world protection. Working closely with security analysts and engineering teams, you’ll close detection gaps and create smarter playbooks that keep cyber risks at bay. This is where technical precision meets creative problem-solving, and where your work directly shapes the resilience of Centrica’s systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance detection logic to identify evolving security threats before they strike
- Automate workflows using GitOps and CI/CD to make detection faster and more efficient
- Collaborate with analysts to strengthen incident response and improve system visibility
- Create new detection use cases using telemetry, intelligence, and data from real incidents
- Build and optimise security playbooks that guide threat hunting and response activities
- Stay updated on emerging threats and turn that knowledge into actionable defences
