Job Summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) in Neurosurgery. This role will be primarily based within the Functional Neurosurgery service at Charing Cross Hospital, with some work required at St Mary’s Hospital to ensure a diverse range of learning opportunities.

The successful candidate will undertake this post via the apprenticeship route, dedicating 80% of time to clinical training and 20% to studying for a Masters Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice with City University London. Upon successful completion of both academic and clinical training, the tACP will be qualified to apply for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) post.

Main Responsibilities

  • Streamline and develop Functional Neurosurgery patient pathways.
  • Conduct clinical assessments of pre- and post-procedure Functional Neurosurgery patients (following relevant training).
  • Prescribe and de-prescribe medications upon achieving non-medical prescriber status.
  • Assist intra-operatively under Consultant supervision (following relevant training).
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patient care.
  • Order and interpret imaging results (following relevant training).
  • Undertake clinics and associated administrative duties with appropriate supervision.
  • Engage in research, audit, and quality improvement (QI) activities.
  • Attend and present cases at MDT meetings.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Current NMC/HCPC/GPhC registration.
  • BSc (2.2 or above) in a relevant professional qualification (Nursing, Para-medicine, Therapies, Pharmacy) or completion of a Masters-level module (Level 7).
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in Neurosurgery or a related area.
  • Previous experience at a Band 6 level in Neurosurgery or related areas.
  • Current Good Clinical Practice certificate.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Leadership course or qualification.
  • Experience in peer reviews or QI projects.
  • Experience in Functional Neurosurgery or related sub-specialities.
