Requirements
- Educated to degree level in Psychology, child and adolescent development, or as a qualified teacher
- Knowledge of child development, wellbeing, or mental health through academic study
- Experience working in schools with children and young people in a mental health context
- Strong communication skills to build trust with young people and families
- Motivation to develop practical skills and complete all training modules successfully
- Ability to manage a varied caseload under supervision
Salary Details
The salary for this role is £27,485 – £30,162 per year, offered on a fixed-term contract for up to 12 months, ending January 2027.
About the Role
The Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioner role is designed for individuals who want to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people. During training, the post-holder will work under supervision in schools across Gloucestershire, including Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Cheltenham, and the Cotswolds.
The programme equips practitioners to deliver evidence-based interventions for children experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges. Training is split into six modules that cover practical skills like guided self-help, caseload management, and collaborative goal setting with young people and their families. Alongside training, the practitioner will gain real-world experience working with multidisciplinary teams to improve access to specialist services.
Every aspect of this role matters because it supports young people at a critical stage, helping them build resilience and positive mental health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children and families by co-producing intervention plans and reviewing outcomes together
- Deliver guided self-help strategies that empower young people to manage their wellbeing
- Manage a supervised caseload to gain professional competence and confidence
- Prepare and present caseload information for supervisors to ensure quality care
- Work with colleagues to improve access to specialist mental health services and make referrals where needed
- Contribute to building stronger links between education and healthcare services
