Requirements

  • A degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related subject
  • Strong knowledge of child development, wellbeing, or mental health through study or work
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people in schools or mental health settings
  • Willingness to travel between schools and attend University training sessions
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to manage a small caseload under supervision

Salary Details

This role offers a Band 4 salary of £27,485 to £30,162 per annum, with incremental progression based on service and performance.

About the Role

This is no ordinary training post. As a Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioner, you’ll split your time between schools in areas like Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds, and specialist training delivered at University. From day one, you’ll support children and young people facing mild to moderate mental health challenges, helping them find ways to cope and move forward.

Your work will be practical, evidence-based and deeply impactful. You’ll deliver guided self-help strategies, involve parents and carers in support plans, and learn to manage your own caseload. Every intervention, whether a conversation, a classroom strategy, or a referral, has the power to shape brighter futures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children and young people with early interventions that promote wellbeing
  • Work with families and carers to create realistic support plans
  • Manage a supervised caseload, developing independence as you progress
  • Record and present caseload details to supervisors for reflective learning
  • Collaborate with teachers and healthcare staff to improve access to mental health services
  • Develop practical skills through six training modules covering theory and applied practice
