Requirements

  • A recorded or registered qualification in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy, or counselling (BACP accredited), or evidence of meeting the BABCP Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (KSA) requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health practice with an understanding of depression and anxiety in primary care settings
  • Strong communication and organisational skills to manage your own caseload effectively
  • Ability to build therapeutic relationships and work well within a high-volume service
  • Computer literacy and competence in risk assessment and clinical documentation

Salary Details

The starting salary ranges between £38,682 and £46,580 per year, depending on experience and progression during training.

About the Role

As a Trainee High Intensity Therapist, you’ll provide psychological therapy to adults experiencing depression and anxiety disorders. While training, you’ll deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions under close supervision. Each week, you’ll work directly with individuals either face-to-face or through online sessions, tailoring evidence-based treatment plans that drive real change.

This isn’t just about learning techniques—it’s about developing your clinical voice and becoming part of a team that values impact. You’ll work alongside professionals in physical health, mental health and social care, as well as with community organisations, ensuring people get the right support at the right time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological assessments to identify needs and create personalised CBT treatment plans that drive measurable progress
  • Deliver one-to-one therapy sessions and review treatment outcomes weekly to ensure effectiveness
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to enhance continuity of care
  • Maintain high-quality clinical records and contribute to audit and evaluation activities
  • Engage in structured academic learning through the University of Chester and apply knowledge directly to client work
