Salary Details

This NHS Band 4 role offers a starting salary between £31,944 and £34,937, depending on experience and working hours.

About the Role

You’ll work as part of a growing team across multiple maternity sites including Bromley, Southwark, Lewisham, Greenwich, and Bexley. The service runs 7 days a week, and you’ll rotate shifts to cover weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays.

Your job? Simple but powerful. You’ll screen newborn babies’ hearing in the first days of life, helping to identify any early signs of permanent hearing loss. This early detection changes lives, giving babies the best start and helping families plan early interventions. You’ll be based primarily at Princess Royal University Hospital and King’s College Hospital, but you’ll also help cover nearby units when needed.

This is one of the largest screening programmes in the UK, supporting over 26,000 births every year, and you’ll be at the heart of it. If you’re reliable, caring and detail focused, this could be your way into a lasting career in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform hearing screening tests for newborns in maternity units and clinics
• Record screening results clearly and securely using NHS systems
• Communicate with new parents in a calm and friendly manner
• Support follow-up procedures for any babies requiring further assessments
• Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of all test results
• Collaborate with NHS teams to deliver a safe and consistent service
• Stay flexible to cover multiple hospitals across South East London
