Requirements

  • GCSE (or equivalent) Maths, English, and Science at Grade C / 4 or higher
  • One of the following:
    • 112 UCAS points from at least two A levels including 32 points in Biology
    • 96 UCAS points from three A levels including 32 in Biology
    • Access to Higher Education Diploma in Science
    • Completion of a level 3 Healthcare Science Assistant apprenticeship
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Interest in respiratory physiology and patient-centred care
  • Flexibility and motivation to learn in a clinical environment

Salary Details

This role starts on NHS Band 4 (26,530) with clear progression to Band 5 (up to 36,483) after successfully completing the 3-year Healthcare Science Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship.

About the Role

This one’s for the curious, the committed, and the hands-on learner. As a Trainee Respiratory Physiologist, you’ll join a team doing essential work—helping patients breathe easier, live better, and get answers when it matters most.

You’ll dive into the science and practice of lung function testing, learning how to run studies like broncho provocation and cardiopulmonary exercise tests. No need to be an expert yet. They’ll train you up with support from seasoned professionals and lecturers at Sheffield Hallam University.
