Job Description

The University of Glasgow is seeking a dedicated Tutor in Economic and Social History to join their School of Social and Political Sciences. The role involves contributing to an exceptional student experience through teaching, assessment, and administrative duties. This position is primarily focused on the MSc Global Economy programme and includes core research methods training and dissertation supervision. Additionally, the role involves 20% allocation for scholarship and pedagogy development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and deliver teaching activities.
  • Conduct a range of teaching and assessment activities.
  • Manage course administration including communication, marking, and feedback.
  • Develop teaching materials to meet learning objectives.
  • Utilize learning technologies and ICT materials, including Moodle.
  • Provide inclusive, evidence-based teaching to meet diverse student needs.
  • Oversee student projects, dissertations, and practical work.
  • Support student engagement and pastoral care.
  • Participate in professional development activities and other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) and a PhD in a relevant subject or near completion.
  • Professional teaching qualification or working towards one.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Specialist knowledge in contemporary globalization and economic development.
  • 1-2 years of relevant teaching and administrative experience.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds is desirable.

Duration and Location

  • This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 1 year.
  • Based at 32 University Ave, Glasgow.

Compensation

  • Salary range: £32,332 – £36,024 per annum.
  • Includes company pension and benefits package.
