About the Role:
As a Ward Housekeeper at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring patients receive high-quality food and beverage services. You’ll work closely with ward dietitians to provide individualised care, taking into account patients’ cultural, religious, and medical requirements. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve explaining menu systems to new patients, liaising with patients and their families about meal preferences, and ensuring appropriate food fortification as directed by dietitians. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining hygiene standards, managing stock levels, and collaborating with nursing staff to provide the best possible care for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Explain menu systems to new patients and liaise daily with patients and family members regarding meal preferences
  • Encourage and assist patients with food ordering, considering special dietary needs and medical requirements
  • Collaborate closely with ward dietitians to ensure appropriate food fortification
  • Serve meals and beverages at correct temperatures, adhering to Food Hygiene Regulations
  • Assist patients with eating and drinking as required, using systems like the red tray/beaker system
  • Record food intake on charts in conjunction with nursing staff
  • Maintain cleanliness of ward kitchens and food service areas
  • Order daily provisions and manage stock levels
  • Inform ward managers of equipment replacement needs
