Requirements

  • Registered mental health professional with the NMC
  • Post registration course at degree or diploma level
  • Student practice supervisor and assessor qualification
  • Strong leadership qualities with a flexible, positive approach
  • Evidence of extensive post registration experience
  • Desirable: leadership qualification for added advantage

Salary Details

This Band 6 post offers a salary of £38,682 to £46,580 depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Role

As a Ward Sister Charge Nurse on Birch Ward, you’ll be leading from the front, managing day to day care while supporting patients and families through difficult times. You’ll take responsibility for clinical delivery, supervision of staff, and ensuring therapeutic interventions meet the highest standards.

This role isn’t just about administration, it’s about stepping into a position where your decisions shape safe care, your leadership inspires staff, and your presence reassures patients. From managing clinical areas in the absence of senior leads to guiding your team through complex situations, you’ll be right at the centre of care that truly matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of safe and effective care so patients feel supported and respected
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, building confidence and skill in others
  • Work flexibly across wards when needed, keeping services resilient
  • Liaise with statutory and non statutory agencies to strengthen patient support networks
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions that follow agreed care plans and make a real difference
  • Take charge of the ward in the absence of the manager, ensuring stability and continuity
  • Maintain accurate records and monitor effectiveness of care for governance and quality
